In April, we welcomed Louise on board as our Client Relationship Manager, from afar. Here, Louise shares her experience of joining the Cutitronics team virtually.
An interesting start
I started working at Cutitronics on 14th April 2020, three weeks into the national lockdown and from a makeshift office in my spare room – talk about a new challenge! Luckily for me, I had worked with both Wilma, Commercial Director, and Emma, Marketing Manager, previously, so having a few familiar faces on our Zoom calls made the transition a lot easier. Needless to say, it was certainly the most interesting start to a new job I’ve experienced in my career so far.
Building the role
With Cutitronics working towards the upcoming launch of its new tech, I was brought on board to help build and maintain relationships with new clients. This is something I’ve always done, and a job I truly love. Coming from an agency background, I’m used to working with clients a lot further along the lifecycle, so getting involved during such early stages presents an exciting new challenge. I’m spending a lot of time at the moment really immersing myself in the skincare industry and reading up on the brands that we work with – I’m learning a lot. As Cutitronics’ first Client Relationship Manager, I’m essentially building the role as I go, but it’s really rewarding to be able to bring together all of the experience from my previous jobs and drive this project from the ground up.
The Cutitronics culture
Face-to-face interaction is an essential aspect of any customer-facing role. In that respect, taking things completely digital has taken some getting used to - for building relationships within the industry and co-workers. The process of getting to know my colleagues has felt a little slower than it usually would, however, the Cutitronics team have been fantastic in fostering team bonding from a distance.
Every week we enjoy a virtual coffee morning, talking about all things non-work related to try and keep a sense of normality during these strange times. Additionally, our ‘lunch and learn’ zooms - where one team member shares a story from their favourite trip – has been a great opportunity to see the many sides of such a dynamic team. Everybody is so friendly and genuinely passionate about the job they are doing, which is testimony to our brilliant company culture.
An alternative office
The biggest challenge so far has probably been balancing the new role alongside maintaining life at home and taking care of my family. I managed to convert our spare room into a home office for the weekdays, and while this has been helpful for separating my work and personal life, a closed door isn’t always enough to block out the commotion of two young kids! I’ve taken to rainymood.com to help me zone out from a noisy household, which I’d highly recommend for anyone in need of some core focus (it’s basically just relaxing rain music – don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!).
Cutitronics’ understanding of the family environment has also helped this adjustment significantly. They have been hugely supportive of the situation that many parents are facing at the moment, allowing me to work flexible hours to factor in my new home-schooling duties. They could not have done more to make my introduction to the company any smoother and I’m truly grateful to them for the warm welcome which I have received.
I can’t wait to finally meet them all in person!
Meet the rest of our team here.
